About This Spot

Stepping into The Bakery Restaurant and Rooms in the quiet village of Tatsfield is like discovering a welcoming breath of countryside calm wrapped in the warmth of a familiar home. The pace here slows naturally, inviting visitors to settle into a space where every detail—soft lighting, thoughtful decor, and the hum of gentle conversation—feels intentionally crafted to ease the day forward.

This is a place that balances the comfort of a local gathering spot with the subtle refinement of a country retreat. Whether you’ve arrived by car, bicycle, or on foot, the atmosphere greets you with genuine openness. There’s no rush, only the quiet assurance of good company and well-prepared food that honors tradition without relying on formality.

At the heart of the experience is a kitchen that understands the language of hearty, soulful dishes served with care. Breakfast here is a ritual, where the aroma of freshly baked bread and sizzling bacon mingle with the aromas of perfectly brewed coffee. Later in the day, the plate might brim with comforting roasts or delicate seasonal creations that reflect the changing rhythm of British countryside produce—from tender lamb shanks and rich beef cuts to inventive vegetarian options that never feel like an afterthought.

The rooms upstairs continue the same thoughtful approach, offering a quiet sanctuary where clean, tasteful design makes it easy to unwind after a day spent exploring nearby trails or visiting local landmarks. The personal touches, from cozy linens to the small hospitality treats waiting on arrival, extend the warmth you’ve already felt downstairs.

What stands out most at The Bakery is the genuine kindness of the staff—always ready to welcome cyclists, last-minute arrivals, or families looking for a peaceful stopover—and their willingness to go beyond the expected to make your stay feel effortless. This is a spot where the little moments matter: a shared conversation over a perfectly cooked meal, the feeling of being cared for, and the quiet joy of a place that feels like a pause from the busy world.

We cycled there from London, a little concerned that it would be too posh for cyclists in full Lycra, but they were very welcoming and the service was excellent. Full Sunday roast was an unexpected bonus, although they will do a coffee and cake if you've not the time or appetite...Will definitely go again, if I can face cycling up the hills

Stayed overnight here and had a lovely stop over. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Room was super. Clean, nicely decorated. Breakfast was amazing. Cooked with love and care. Visited family locally and really looking forward to staying at this gem again.felt comfortable here.

We stayed here because it is close to the wedding venue 'The Barn' at Botley Hill. We arrived at the last minute....but check in was efficient and friendly. The rooms are smart, comfortable and quiet. Tea, coffee and a few biscuits in the room. Breakfast was really good and they catered for a Gluten free diet (also vegetarian/ vegan options). The coffee was good. Tatsfield itself is pleasant enough but unremarkable.

Great experience at Bakery Hotel. Big thanks to Sheila — our taxi never showed up, and we were close to missing our flight. She stepped in right away and drove us to the airport herself. Thanks to her, we made it on time. Sheila rocks!

We stayed over on our return from France whilst visiting family and Chartwell. We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Bakery, super room and bathroom with every attention to detail, lovely young staff, great breakfast and super location close to the amazing Chartwell. Quite pricey but couldn't fault the quality. Only small issue might be the noise from side garden late at night (possibly staff after hours?) although we were late to bed anyway. Special mention for the great linens, always a winner for me!
